Damage control: US submits proposals to put ties back on track

In an attempt to commence damage control, the US Ambassador to Pakistan is believed to have handed over a proposal to the government, envisaging a series of measures to repair bilateral ties, strained after last month's Nato airstrikes on a Pakistani border post.

Banking system assets grow 8%: SBP

The assets of Pakistan's banking system increased by 8% or Rs577 billion to Rs7.7 trillion during January-June, 2011. This surge in the banks' total assets, both in absolute and growth terms, was the most significant since 2007, the State Bank of Pakistan's (SBP) Financial Stability Review (FSR) said on Friday.
